Mist & Fog Brushes
This weeks Friday Freebie is a set of Photoshop Brushes that add beautiful mist and fog in just one click.

If you’re wondering why there are two versions, maximum brush sizes in Photoshop CS6 (and in Photoshop CC) are twice as big as CS5 and earlier. To take advantage of this I’ve created two sizes of brush… be sure and download the correct one.
Once you’ve downloaded and unzipped the brushes they’ll need to be installed. The easiest way to do that is by opening the Brush panel and clicking the flyout menu in the top right corner. Click Load Brushes… and navigate to the light ray brushes that you downloaded and unzipped. Click here see a copy of the menu and information on where to click
To get the best from these brushes make a blank layer above your photo and set your foreground colour to white. Choose which brush you’d like to use and click once. You can then adjust the layer opacity and use free transform to resize and reposition the fog as you see fit. I found that using two or even all three mist brushes on separate layers often gave more realistic results the just using one but it all depends on the photo you’re using and the look you’re after.

I posted a thank you and a link to my try at these brushes combined with the light ray brushes and for a awhile it said “waiting moderation” but now my post is gone completely. Did I do something incorrectly? If so, I am very sorry.
Your Fog-Mist and Light Rays brushes are great and have been used in seveal of my photographs and projects. What we have here, though, is a 46 second ProShow Producer slide show that is actually more of a movie than a static photo slide show. I made it as a ‘Thank You’ for one of our friend’s daughter who loves to cook and frequently makes goodies for us. In this case, an Apple Cherry Pie.
The Light Rays are in the form of a flashlight beam and the Fog-Mist appears as ground fog forms just after a storm. Of course, an evil witch is also part of the story. I took the self portraits late one evening when I was dreaming up this story. (Canon G11)

Note: This slide show/movie is a high quality MP4 video and when I test ran
it in Dropbox, by double clicking it, the quality was less than desirable, ie., jerky and faded color. The problem could be my Windows 7 computer. Anyway, after I down loaded it to
my computer and used Windows Media Player, it ran great.

Thanks for this Gavin but when I downloaded it says Photoshop cannot open this kind of file !! I downloaded the version for PS6 and onward. I have PSCC ! Would love to use these any ideas ?

I followed the download link for CS6 and beyond, and the drop down mini arrow on Adobe’s Creative Cloud page shows “Fog-Mist-Gavtrain.abr” and below it, when you attempt to download the .abr, the file is: “octet-stream, original 17.7MB”??
Looking at your past offers, I have had no issues downloading the file types you indicated. As Barbara Riddell indicated on April 7, 2014… is there an issue at Adobe with this file?
