One to One Workshops

Going on a workshop is a great way to keep your photography fresh but not every photographer wants to be part of a group. With a one to one session you can learn at your own speed, ask any questions and take as many photos as you want.

We currently run one to one sessions on how to use flash in portraits, take amazing water splashes and learning camera skills. If you want more information or would like to book, please get in contact using the form at the very bottom of this page.

Introduction to flash (in a small home studio)

Starting with a simple one light set up you’ll look at getting everything from finding the exposure settings, to Gavin’s favourite lighting set ups. Best of all everything we do will be with as little equipment as possible and take up a minimal amount of space, so you can get the same results in your home or mobile studio. For part of the session you’ll be working with an experienced model.

Some of the areas covered include…

  • Use either studio flash heads or speedlights.
  • One light portraits with hard and soft lighting
  • Adding a second light
  • Understanding the flash meter

Price – £325 per person – Additional person £150
(maximum of 3 people per booking)

Duration – Approximately 4 Hours
Location – Copthorne, West Sussex (10 minutes from Gatwick Airport)
Date – Available all year round. Contact us to check availability
Other Information – You’re welcome to bring your own studio lighting equipment if you wish or we can use our studio lights. This is a training event and not a portfolio building session, although you may use the final photos in your personal portfolio.

  • Using flash to freeze moving water
  • Creating the classic drip shot

Olympus Camera Skills

Olympus cameras are capable of capturing amazing images but they’re also very high tech gadgets. Fortunately Gavin has years of experience using the Olympus OMD range of cameras and can quickly get you up to speed on the essential skills. If you’re already comfortable with the basics and you want to know more, this workshop is for you as it can be adjusted to fit you needs. Simply knowing which button does what is only half the story. Camera skills such as composition, depth of field control and getting sharp images are just as important as which button changes your ISO.

The content of the day will be adjusted to suit your needs but can include…

  • The best settings for your Olympus camera
  • Ideal Aperture/Shutter/ISO speed
  • Advanced shooting such as Hi-Res mode or HDR
  • Which lenses to use and when
  • Review of your images from the day

Price – £220 per person – Additional person £110
(maximum of 3 people per booking)

Duration – Approximately 3 Hours
Location – Charlwood, West Sussex (5 minutes from Gatwick Airport)
Date – Available Wednesday to Saturday all year. Contact us to check availability
Other Information – The location for the workshop is The Gatwick Aviation Museum which has a selection of inside and outside settings. Other locations can be arranged.
